Feeling Security in Insecurity

Tuesday, April 17, 2018

For one of my assignments for my photography class this semester, we had to get inspired by another photographer who we look up too and interpret their photography style in our own unique way. So, of course, I chose one of my favorite photographers Sarah Bahbah.

One photo can tell a thousand words, but Sarah Bahbah provides a whole story. If you are not familiar with Sarah Bahbah’s work, you have probably have seen it all over your Instagram feed. She is an amazing photographer who doesn’t just provide us with not only with gorgeous “re-grammable” photos but she provides humorous subtitles bringing them to life. Making them seem like they were screencaps in a movie.

I have always wanted to do a shoot that focused on insecurities and vulnerability, so I took advantage of that during this assignment.

Who knew that a bathroom can make you feel so vulnerable. She is obviously naked but she was exposed in many other ways in one. Focusing on her insecurities, even though they can not be seen by anyone else's eyes. They run deeper than the surface but they are always there in your mind, every day. Pointing them out starts to become part of your everyday routine.

I hope you enjoy these! (be gentle I am very much an amateur)

Ten Thousand Steps Toward A Greater Nation

Women's March NYC 2018

Most people do not realise that a step has a voice. So, just imagine how loud 10,413 steps can shout. That’s how many footprints I left on the streets of Manhattan’s streets today during the 2018 NYC Women’s March.
This was my first protest ever and I have never felt so important as a human being. The room was full of love and acceptance everywhere. Every individual person walked in unity regardless on what they identified as, what is in between there legs, their race, their religion, or their sexuality.
And what makes this event even more special for me is that I registered to vote!! And If you are 18 and over you should too, because your voice is extremely important.

As I was marching, with all of signs surrounding me, I was reminded on what exactly I was walking for. Thousands of people were in the same area and going the same direction but we all were fighting for different reasons. I have many reasons but hare a few of the reasons why I marched:

  • Everyone should be held accountable for  and suffer the consequences if they have ever assaulted anyone sexually. Also, I want people need people to understand that you can be sexually harassed by anyone, not just men.
  • I believe that women should have the right to do as they wish with their bodies, in every kind of way. From being as sexually active as they want, wearing whatever they choose, who they choose to give their body to, change their body however they want, and choosing what to do if they get pregnant.
  • This world should be a safe place for everyone to feel comfortable about speaking up about something without being silenced.
  • For people to understand that stereotype, pressure, or even having a certain set of genitalia does not define who you are.
  • I marched for people being judged, discriminated against, and even profiled for the color of their skin. Also, to bring awareness to innocent people's lives being taken away from them and not receiving any justice for it.
  • I want people to feel like their masculinity or femininity is jeopardized for doing what they loved.
  • Lastly, how is Trump not impeached already.

Here's some photos I snapped that day:

Probably the best sign I saw all day.

"Shame!" the crowd chanted while pointing to the building where FOX News is filmed.

"Say It Loud. Say it Clear. We Will Not Descriminate Here!"

Prologue

Friday, November 3, 2017
Millions of thoughts are rushing through my mind at the moment as I am anxiously typing my very first blog post. I have attempted to make a platform like this for many years now but always stopped myself and never fully pursued one because of constantly being consumed with procrastination and self-doubt. But ever since I moved to New York City, I’ve been more motivated to create than ever. To create a visual diary where I can express myself, show off everything I love, publicly exhibit all of the things that inspire me, and show my self-growth.
Now, I’d advise that you go grab yourself a nice cup of coffee while I introduce myself because that is what I am doing and I highly recommend it. My name is Arielle Storme, pronounced like Stormy, and I currently live in Manhattan while I am studying at college. I am a Virgo who enjoys fashion, photography, and art. When I am not writing poetry in one of my many journals, I am often found thrift shopping, reading, collecting postcards from art museums, watching re-runs of The Nanny on repeat, sipping fresh cups of Colombian coffee, and contemplating all of my life decisions.

I hope all of you lovely people enjoy this new beginning in my life and exploring through my thoughts.

Yours Truly,

Arielle Storme xx
